Saturday 4th July 2009 7.30 HAVANT SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA |

Overture on Three Russian Themes – Balakirev Piano Concerto No 2 in Bb major* – Brahms Symphony No 3 in C, Singulière – Berwald Soloist Alexander Karpeyev performed Brahms’ 2nd piano concerto as a finalist in the Guildhall School of Music & Drama 2008 Gold Medal competition (follow the link from his name for further biographical details and some excerpts from that performance). Balakirev starts the evening with a nationalistic element, while Berwald’s romantic symphony provides a fabulously dynamic end to the season with more Scandinavia! A concert to send us all home humming. The pre-concert talk 6.30 - Berwald’s ‘singular’ 3rd Symphony * Originally Andrew Brownell was scheduled to play Brahms’ 1st piano concerto. However, as circumstances outside his control meant that he was unable to be with us on this date, Alexander Karpeyev will be playing Brahms’ 2nd piano concerto instead. |
