Tom Torley – TubaTom began learning the cornet when he was 9 but rapidly progressed to the tuba. He is currently in his second year at the Royal College of Music studying the tuba, with piano as a second study. Tom has been at various times in the past a member of the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain, the National Youth Wind Orchestra and the National Youth orchestra of Great Britain, with whom he appeared at the Proms. Tom’s tuba playing will be featuring in two performances of Tubby the Tuba, including one with the Southgate Symphony Orchestra in April 2017. Tom plays with a number of orchestras in the London area, most notably the Royal Orchestral Society, London’s oldest orchestra. He is also a church organist and has started teaching and conducting, including part of a woodwind programme last year by the largely professional Virtuoso Wind Ensemble. Tom hopes to make a career in music. |
