If you enjoy classical music, you don’t have to travel far or pay huge ticket prices to hear it live! The two Havant Orchestras provide an opportunity for local musicians (including music teachers and talented amateur musicians) to perform together and for local audiences to experience live orchestral music for very reasonable prices, with special low prices for students and children. Both orchestras have a solid reputation for high quality performances with outstanding soloists, often including local performers. This year’s concert programmes and soloists have been selected by our principal conductors as the Musical Directors of their respective orchestras.
Havant Symphony Orchestra concerts are at Oaklands Catholic School, Waterlooville. All of our concerto soloists are new to HSO this year: Shiry Rashkovsky (viola), Tom Torley (tuba) and Peter Foggitt (piano). Each concert normally includes a work directed by a talented student conductor under our Bob Harding Bursary award scheme. The season finale is Holst’s magnificent Planets Suite, for which HSO will be joined by a number of additional instrumental players and a small choir!
‘Only one word for it really: wow!’ – Mike Allen in The News, 30th March 2015
Havant Chamber Orchestra concerts continue at Ferneham Hall, Fareham. HCO continue their exploration of the work of Beethoven with his Symphony No. 7 in October and then a special all-Beethoven concert in May including the famous Symphony No. 5. Recent soloist Savitri Grier returns in October to play the ever-popular Bruch Violin Concerto No. 1. We also have two new soloists: James Turnbull plays the Richard Strauss oboe concerto in February and local pianist Roger Owens adds the Piano Concerto No. 3 to our all-Beethoven concert.
‘Those lucky enough to have been at the Ferneham Hall on Sunday night were treated to a fine performance of Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez’ – Mike Allen in The News, 12th October 2015
Separate season tickets are available for the three concerts at each venue, with a further price reduction when season tickets are purchased for both venues. Single tickets are on sale from September, after the initial season ticket seats have been allocated.
In addition to the main program of three concerts by each orchestra, Havant Symphony Orchestra have a pre-season concert of ‘Popular Classics’ at Hayling Island Community Centre on Saturday 24th September 2016, conducted by our 2015-16 Bob Harding Bursary award holder Joseph Beckhelling. There is also an additional concert by the strings of Havant Chamber Orchestra at Emsworth Baptist Church on Saturday 11th March 2017.
